Happy Anniversary: The Same Old Songs

Just received my "anniversary" edition of Hoof Beats magazine and if there is a single theme running through the beautifully-colored pages it is that our industry must do more to save itself if we are going to all be here 25 or 50 years from now doing what we do. Distinguished columnist after columnist, all the old mainline guys, chimed in to say that the old ways of doing business are gone forever, that drastic changes are needed.

Never before have so many people seen so clearly what ne...

Taking a Shot at Redemption

I am sure that when all the Meadowlands Pace entries are taken Share the Delight will have the lowest amount earned in 2008 of all the competitors. That's just the way his season has been for him and for us; lost opportunities, bad luck, a scoping sick. But in the end we decided that the race will be paced in the present and not the past (or the future) and so we decided to take our shot. The horse deserves a chance to put it all together at the right time. Whether he can, and what the result...

Bullville Deserves a Powerful Shot

I think it's great that Bullville Powerful, the fine pacing colt, is going to be supplemented (for a cool 100k) to the Meadowlands Pace. He deserves a chance to beat Somebeachsomewhere and I applaud his owner/trainer/breeder Steve Crevani for taking his shot. The horse already has earned a few hundred thousand and when he paced in 1.49 flat over a "good" track at the Big M Saturday night (beating our Share the Delight, by the way) he showed again that he's got grit and talent.

Anyone disa...

The Big M and YouTube

Great news from East Rutherford. The Meadowlands now has a YouTube page for the Meadowlands Pace, the Hambo and (hopefully) all things in between and after. YouTube (and Facebook and MySpace) are EXCELLENT ways in which to grow interest in the sport not just because they are roamed constantly by people under 30 (the generation of fans we've heretofore lost).

Other tracks should follow suit. Every harness race in North America should be available online, in some fashion, within 24 hours of...

Badlands In a Beauty; Haughton and Haldol

Say what you will about the racing at Yonkers Raceway-- and I have-- but boy that Rooney Final was a scintillating race. I didn't think Badlands Nitro would be able to get there at the end but he did and good for him. And good for the connections of Moon Beam, the horse who looked just awful a few weeks ago. He finished a solid third. I have a question though. I read somewhere that Legacy 'N Diamonds would have been penalized for not racing in the final. Is this common?

I didn't see Thong...
