Axelrod on Marketing Committee

May 17th 2008

Here is the text of an email I received yesterday from Ivan Axelrod, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the United States Trotting Association:

"We have spent the past couple of months interviewing prospective members for our Marketing Advisory Committee and have now completed the selection process.  We received many inquiries from individuals both within and outside our industry with an interest in becoming a part of our Committee.  I believe we now have a committee of volunteers with strong backgrounds in many areas of marketing and advertising.

We are in the process of organizing our initial conference call to discuss our mission and I will be pleased to provide you and others within the industry as to our goals and objectives.  This information will be forthcoming within the next two weeks. I appreciate your continued interest."

Andrew again: I have asked Ivan to tell me the names of the Committee members and will let you know when I get a response.

Andrew.

Are they actively recruiting marketing minds or merely accepting applicants?

From Andrew: I don't know, Bob. All I know is that Ivan Axelrod did not respond to two candidates who believe they merited at least a courtesy call.

I am very interested in hearing that all of the candidates were interviewed. I am 38 years old and have been a V.P. of Marketing and Customer Relations for the past 15+ years and also serve as the Assistant Publicity Director for the Little Brown Jug. Once I saw they were looking for volunteers for a marketing committee, I sent a note to Ellen Harvey of the HRC Office. Ellen said that she forwarded my interest to Mr. Axelrod. I never heard from Mr. Axelroad! How embarrassing that they don't have the time or decency to at least contact me. Why would the USTA want to hear from a Gen Xer anyway? Oh well, maybe this Marketing Committee will be better accepted than the Zalensky Marketing Report in the 1980's.

From Andrew: Jay, you are now the SECOND person with precisely this story-- no response from the USTA. I am looking into it.
