Balmoral Needs Horses-- and Fast

The news this morning from Balmoral is not good. Harnessracing.com is reporting that prominent trainer Joe Anderson is taking 19 horses from the Land of Lincoln to race them at purse-rich tracks back East. Horses that raced yesterday and in to go again on Wednesday.

How will this affect places like Cottonwood Farms? How will this affect the so-far losing effort to get slots at Illinois tracks? It's a story worth watching as the summer progresses. And we should probably start talking about it now. Let me know what you think.

Oh, and good Monday morning

The purses are so poor in Illinois you can't viably race there. I live in Illinois and would love to race there, but the economics don't add up. It isn't a great deal of fun as an owner almost never being able to see your horses train or race. Illinois needs to get its act together and soon!!!!

I guess Joe Anderson is now considered squeeky clean enough to return to the east coast. The last time he had a stable based at the Meadowlands, management was going to require all his horses to race out of the detention barn, due to multiple "black box" violations he had committed out in Chicago. Not wanting to suffer that indignity, Joe packed up his tack and shipped his horses back to Chicago.
