Birthday Wishes from a "Young" Horseman

June 24th 2008

Happy Tuesday. It's St. Jean Baptiste Day in Quebec and it's also my birthday. I am the big 4-2. For my birthday, among other things not worth mentioning here, I would like:

1. A Little Brown Jug victory for Linda Toscano, whether it is with our horses or not. And a win in any major stakes race for my dad, who deserves it more than most.

2. A brand-new entity in harness racing, well-funded, that would bring together all the disparate parts of the industry through a centralized Commissioner's Office.

3. A sunny, breezy day at the Red Mile in late September. Looking at yearlings in the morning, great racing in the afternoon, and a nice meal at one of Lexington's great restaurants at night. The best trifecta ever.

4. Dinner with Dean Hoffman, and dinner with Ralph Succee, and dinner with Murray Brown, and dinner with Keith Waples, and dinner with John Campbell, and dinner with Benoit Cote. I would say "dinner with Mike Lachance" but I've already had that honor.

5. A blank check at Harrisburg in November.

6. The broodmare that Bob Marks is going to find for me this year.

7. A trip to the Meadowlands winner's circle, or the winner's circle at Yonkers, which still haven't come my way yet.

8. To cover a doping story where the trainer says: "Yep, it's true. I did it. I am not going to appeal the ruling. And my owners just fired me."

9. Joe Faraldo and Jeff Gural to bake me an apple pie.

10.  Share the Delight nipping you-know-who (he-who-shall-not-be-named?) at the wire in 48.3!

That's not asking for too much now, is it? Have a great day. Sammy and I are going to make the most of it.

Happy birthday Andy! We had no idea. And I'm sure that Maria will remember from now on as mine is the day before. Say Hi to Sammy and we hope to see you at the beach before the summer is over.

Happy Birthday Andrew!

You should add to your list more racing commissions acting like the ORC (usually).

Happy Birthday Andrew...Can I join you at some of those dinners? I think it would be really cool if we could organize something with all of the people from the blog and some of harness racing's best. I'd certainly do my best to make it!! Have a great day and i hope you can fulfill that list!

From Andrew: Thanks, Bryan. How about some chocolate shaped racehorses? Seriously-- send me a link to your site and we'll do a blog post on it.
