Goodtimes Final to Clerk Magistrate-- Nice and Easy

June 14th 2008

Well, so much for the coronation of Windsong Espoir. Clerk Magistrate, an Andover Hall colt trained by Per Henriksen, cruised to an impressive win in the 2008 Goodtimes trotting Final. Another nice colt, Don Giovanni (the music to which my son played his piano recital a few weeks ago, I add gratuitously) didn't finish in the money, either.

Funny, eh? How some of the most impressive 2-year-olds just don't dominate a year later.

Not too often at Mohawk that the second quarter is faster than the first quarter, and it's also not too often that in a race going for nearly $300,000 that the first and last quarters are just :29 flat. But Clerk Majistrate trotted his heart out in that third quarter of :27.3 to clear the leader, kudos to him and Trevor.

Nice call, Andrew....just shows you how tough it is to keep them at a high level. The great ones seem to keep their peak just that much longer then the rest.

Boy, Andover Hall throws some nice racehorses. He seems to sire a beast of a racehorse every year. Could this one be his in 2008?

From Andrew: I don't know, Tim. I haven't yet paid attention to the trotters but I do know that we have just seen a really nice young trotter. We bought a part of an Angus Hall colt and a Windsong's Legacy colt this past year at Harrisburg. We'll see!
