You now can add Florida to the dismaying list of states which for reasons both stated and unknown are unwilling to expand gambling onto racetracks. Yesterday's Palm Beach Post brings us news about a failed effort by the Rooney family (owners and operators of Yonkers Raceway) to re-develop the land upon which the Palm Beach Kennel Club operates.

 

Yes, I know. It's greyhound racing. And, yes, I know, political action sometimes takes a circuitous rout. But the effort in Palm Beach County to create a cool new revenue stream for a beleagured state budget didn't even rate a hearing much less a vote. We saw the same thing in Kentucky a few months ago in the horse world. I wish someone would explain it all to me like I'm an 11-year-old.
