G'day.
The "Trots" are pretty healthy downunder.
Andrew, you may know that in Australia, the AHRC( Australian Harness Racing Council) is the overriding body, but each state runs its "show". Tracks are run by clubs, but races, fields, betting, and overall sponshorship and promotion are at a state level
The state of Victoria, like the others has a government appointed body, with a "commissioner" and a CEO.
The health of the industry, because that's what it is is worth having a look at, in relation to the USTA fiasco with "appointment" of the panel.
It results in healthy , well promoted competition across all the tracks in the state. Maybe the model could be something to learn from in the US.
Have a look at the replay ( available 30 minutes after every race across the state 2yo race at Moonee Valley (Melbourne) with Ananz winning its 9th in a row, for Kerryn Manning, the world's winningest female driver.
