The Big M and YouTube

July 7th 2008

Great news from East Rutherford. The Meadowlands now has a YouTube page for the Meadowlands Pace, the Hambo and (hopefully) all things in between and after. YouTube (and Facebook and MySpace) are EXCELLENT ways in which to grow interest in the sport not just because they are roamed constantly by people under 30 (the generation of fans we've heretofore lost).

Other tracks should follow suit. Every harness race in North America should be available online, in some fashion, within 24 hours of its completion.

This is good news indeed, and hopefully will start a trend within our sport. Having raced in NJSS at the Meadowlands the last few weeks, I was shocked by the fact that only about 3500 were in attendance each time I went.

One thing, minor but still annoying, is that they have planted some trees in the outdoor "Paddock Park", just above the 1/8 pole, that effectively block the view turning for home for anyone sitting in the majority of the grandstand seats. Not a big deal on a typical night, but for the Meadowlands Pace or the Hambletonian, for which I presume they are still selling reserved seats, it will affect hundreds of patrons.
