Good Wednesday to you. Today from Standardbred Canada's website is a
story that is as welcome as it is unsurprising. Officials from Harness Racing PEI (that's Prince Edward Island for those of you in the South 48 who don't know such things) and Aliant teamed up to provide live online streamed video of the racing at Charlottetown Driving Park's last Saturday.
And, guess what? The reviews were "rave," reports SC. Here is the exact quote from the SC website: "We received a lot of praise about the quality of the show and the racing product," said Lee Drake, director of Marketing and Promotions with Harness Racing PEI Inc. "We are going to continue working on new initiatives for racing. Aliant provided us with the hits that included 9 provinces, 12 states and 19 foreign countries tuning in for the show over the three-hour period.
"The show is centered around horse racing but it's designed to be educational, entertaining and cross promotes other exciting attractions and events. It's also showcases our breeding industry" Drake explained. "We want to show the world what is available on Prince Edward Island."
Good for them. And good for any track here in the States that realizes it's time to provide this innovative service to harness fans who for one reason or another can't or won't make it to the track.
Anyone out there disagree? Let me know. And feel free to share your most frustrationg anti-streaming experiences. I know there are plenty.
