Special Report, who usually likes to race on the front end, reversed his tactics and sat in the two hole, then shot up the passing lane at Yonkers and captured the $390,000 George Morton Levy Memorial final in 1:51.4. Over at the Meadowlands, Illinois invader Before He Cheats spoiled the Elitlopp plans for Enough Talk by drawing away in the stretch for a 1:52.4 victory in the $132,000 final of the Su Mac Lad final. Sire Stakes began in Pennsylvania at The Meadows and in Ohio at Lebanon Raceway, and in Europe, the team of trainer Fabrice Souloy and driver Jean Michel Bazire captured Italy's Lotteria in Naples, their fourth major triumph on the continent in 10 days.

Our feature is Kathy Parker's story on Standardbred Canada's Standardbred Wagering Conference, which was held April 28 and 29 in Montreal in conjunction with the Canadian Gaming Summit. It wasn't just another discussion of the same old topics. This time a plan was formulated to attack the declining handle in Canadian harness racing. And, in his weekly Wire To Wire column, Andrew Cohen says the USTA lost a great opportunity by not showing up at the meetings.
