For the 52nd consecutive season Goshen Historic Track will again offer matinee racing during the month of June. And these matinees can double as qualifying races.

Again this year the races will be offered on Sundays in June with the first program on June 2, followed by events on June 9 and June 16.

Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG) has signed a deal with Sportsnet to air the 30th edition of the Pepsi North America Cup, slated for Saturday, June 15, at Mohawk, on Sportsnet's The Score.

The one-hour broadcast, a joint production of WEG and Sportsnet, is scheduled for 9 p.m. (EDT), with the race set for 9:42 p.m.

It will be the first time that a Standardbred race will be shot and aired live in high-definition (HD) in Canada.

Next month, Saratoga Casino and Raceway will celebrate the 90th birthday of a team member who has been part of the company since 1946. Charlie Hoffman, Mutuel Supervisor, began working at the harness track 67 years ago. His career started at the $2 show window, part-time for only the summer seasons, and later became year-round as racing expanded. After retiring from the U.S. Postal Service, Hoffman continued to work for Saratoga Casino and Raceway, climbing the ranks. He has been a full-time employee since 2007.

In just the first start of her 4-year-old campaign, Maven lowered the Woodbine track record and equaled the Canadian record for older trotting mares in her division of the $30,000 Miss Versatility Series.

Maven, who captured the Breeders Crown last October at Woodbine, got under the wire first in 1:52 for regular pilot Yannick Gingras.

Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi's Papa Ray ($7.40, Jim Morand) made his Delaware debut a winning one Monday by capturing the $18,000 featured Open Pace in 1:52.3.

Trained by Ron Burke, the 4-year-old Village Jolt stallion mounted his attack second-over behind Beavercreek Artist towards three-quarters as pacesetter Fissato set fractions of :27.1, :56.1 and 1:24.2. Papa Ray then tipped three wide at the top of the stretch and surged by to prevail by a length over Mojo Terror and Beavercreek Artist.

Lislea Moran was first across the wire in the $6,000 Open Pace in Northfield Park's opening race on Monday. Thomas O'Donnell owns the 7-year-old pacer. Trainer Andy Rickert called upon Northfield Park Wall of Famer Greg Grismore to drive the gelding.

Lislea Moran (Lislea-L'etoile) started from post one and sat the pocket through fractions of :27.3, :56 and 1:24.1.
