Looped from the gate, Big And Little persevered, made the front before the quarter and had little trouble disposing the field from there, capturing his second straight in Monday’s $18,000 Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.
Big And Little set the track record of 1:52.4 for older geldings last week but was stranded Monday when he tried for the early lead, passed by two horses who left outside him. Walter Haynes Sr., 69, of Crete, Ill., died June 16. Mr. Haynes was a longtime member of the USTA and a trainer of Standardbreds.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary; daughter, Brenda Haynes Pulliam; son, Walter Jr. (Sara); and granddaughters, Nikkomi Moorefield, Amber and Lili.
There will be no services per his request.

All three divisions for 3-year-old trotting colts, each of which carried a purse of $79,816, were won by horses who weren't the top betting choice. Fresh off an impressive win in his career debut in last week's $6,000 Bingo Johnnie Stake, Bart Seales' Unlocked continued to impress fans of the Chicago circuit as he rolled to a decisive eight-length victory in Sunday's $15,000 Wicked Brew Stake.
