10-cent bet = $8,605

No, you're eyes weren't deceiving you if you were at Hawthorne Racecourse or watching via simulcast Sunday night, June 19, and saw the 7th race superfecta returning $172,116.80. The $2 price was posted on the tote board but the lure of the 10-cent ticket struck as there was only a single winner of the entire pool, which returned $8,605.84 for that lucky dime.



It was apropos that a horse named AC Excellent Buy won the race at odds of 4-1 as placing the 10-cent superfecta tickets turned out to be an excellent buy. When horses at odds of 30-1, 7-1 and 77-1 finished second, third and fourth, respectively, it led to that single 10-cent ticket taking home the entire pool, which was $11,484 prior to the takeout.



Hawthorne also had a big 10-cent superfecta payoff on Monday, June 13, when a $2 payoff of $57,420.80 was posted on the toteboard. The dime payoff for that race was $2,871.04.



The 10-cent ticket has spurred interest from fans at tracks across the country. Currently, harness tracks such as Hazel Park, Hoosier Park, Scioto Downs, Lebanon Raceway and soon The Red Mile offer the bet.
