The third session of the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale mirrored the first two sessions: there were some solid prices, but overall the average price paid declined. With 156 yearlings sold, the average dropped to $34,628, down from $41,600 in the same session last year. That’s a 16.8 percent decline, following drops of 13 and 14 percent, respectively, in the average on the first two nights of the sale.
A trotting colt by Credit Winner and a pacing colt by Real Desire attracted the top prices on Friday night, both selling for $125,000. Hip 316, a Credit Winner colt out of the Donerail mare Caper Caillie, was hammered down to Myron Bell, acting as agent. Caper Caillie, who is a half sister to Wesgate Crown, has produced Highway Harley 3, 1:57.2. Hip 344, a pacing colt named Westwood Wizard, was bought by Greg Peck, acting as agent. Bred by Perretti Farms, the colt is a son of Real Desire and Western Wisdom, who is out of a full sister to Artiscape and Arterra.
