Despite power outages in the area, the opening session of the Ohio Selected Jug Sale got underway Monday night not far from the Delaware County Fairgrounds, and two yearlings were sold in the $37,000-$40,000 range. A total of 132 yearlings were sold in the first session for an average price of $7,489. The sale was quickly kicked off by the first horse to walk in the ring, a filly by Chip Chip Hooray out of $325,566 winner Sensual Hall 4, 1:53.4. Doug Millard of
The sale topper was hip 84, Noble Jester, a colt by Nobleland Sam out of Armbro Wichita, the dam of Secret Grin p,2, 1:54.3; 4, 1:52.1. Trainer Virgil Morgan Jr. had the last bid at $40,000 and signed the sales slip as agent for Frank and Joe Bellino of Bronx, NY. Midland Acres consigned the colt.
Midland Acres also consigned the second-highest priced yearling to go through the ring, Flying Manny, a colt by Mantacular. Bill Sanders bought the colt with a bid of $37,000. Flying Manny is the first foal of the Jenna's Beach Boy mare Ribbons And Bows p,2, 1:57.4, who is a full sister to $800,000-plus winners Chewy Gross and Bagel Beach Boy.
Trainer Jim Arledge Jr. signed the sales slip on two notables as agent. First he bought hip 10, Kid Cruiser, a black Yankee Cruiser colt out of a sister to $535,027 winner Brees Brief, for $20,500. The colt’s dam, Lady The Kid, has already produced Ohio Sire Stakes contender Cruisin Lady p,2, 1;55.4.
Arledge, again acting as agent, also purchased hip 126, Eye Of The Tiger, a colt by the Western Ideal stallion Dawn Ofa New Day, with a bid of $24,000. The colt is out of Eyes Of A Tigress, a daughter of Falcon Almahurst who took a mark of 1:55.3f at age three and has produced Pretty Eyes p,3, 1:55.2f.
