1:51.4 mark for Wilma Hall

Wilma Hall set a track record for distaffers at Pompano Park on Friday night in winning the $10,000 Open Handicap Pace for mares in 1:51.3 for driver Brett Miller.

The 5-year-old daughter of Blissfull Hall, owned by the Knockout Stable of Margate, Fla. and trained by Jim McDonald, eclipsed the former mark of 1:51.4, set by Kadijah in 2003 and equaled by Hyde Park Hussie N in June of this year.

The win was the seventh of the year in 28 starts for Wilma Hall and the time was a new lifetime mark—her previous best being 1:52.2 over the one-mile Meadowlands oval earlier this year.

It was Wilma Hall who immediately took the lead as Frank Dalton’s gate opened and she hung Townline Lily, the 1-2 favorite handled by Bruce Ranger, out through an opening panel of :27.2. “Lily” finally did make the top after three-eighths of a mile and clocked a half mile time of :55.3. On the backstretch with three-eighths remaining, Brett pulled the trigger and Wilma Hall exploded on by and opened up a big lead as she reached the three-quarters in 1:23.4. From there, she coasted home in :27.4 to record the victory measuring 5 ¾ lengths. Chip And Gale A, last in the five mare field throughout most of the mile, rallied to earn second for Daryl Bier while Asian Paradise N, with Marc Aubin in the bike, edged out Evere’s Connection for third.

Wilma Hall now has earnings of $54,950 for the year and $181,441 lifetime.
