1:54.2 mile for Herbie

Here Comes Herbie set a national season’s mark of 1:54.2 in winning the $50,000 consolation for the Goodtimes Friday night at Woodbine, and Chocolatier—wearing a head pole for the first time—put in a strong effort to take second.

Here Comes Herbie, a colt sired by Credit Winner, was parked through the opening quarter in :28, then cleared and maintained his position the rest of the race. Chocolatier pulled even and kept the pressure on, by Here Comes Herbie prevailed by three-quarters of a length.

Trond Smedshammer trains and drives Here Comes Herbie for the Cutting Edge Stable. The victory was the colt’s first of the season in just his second start.

Chocolatier, who was also making his second start, had broken stride in his previous start. “He’s 1,000 percent better,” said D.R. Ackerman of the colt’s performance with his new equipment.
