Three divisions of the Casual Breeze for 3-year-old trotting fillies were contestetd at Mohawk Friday night and Michelle's Angel edged Pampered Princess in 1:54, Maple Sugar scored in 1:56.3, and Vulcanize picked up her first career victory with a 1:55.3 effort.
Michelle's Angel and Pampered Princess squared off in the first $75,000 division and Michelle's Angel ralled from 7 1/4 lengths back at the three-quarater mark to wiin. Paul MacDonell drove Michelle's Angel, a filly by Andover Hall who was making her second start of the season, for Diamond Creek Farm LLC. John Campbell was up behind Pampered Princess, who had qualified three times at the Meadowlands before making her 2007 debut in the Casual Breeze.
Maple Sugar used a second-over trip to trot to a seven-length score over Up Front Laura. Maple Sugar is a daughter of Malabar Maple trained by Susie Kerwood, who owns the filly in partnership with Enviro Stables Ltd. and Canamerica Capital.. Trevor Ritchie handled the driving.
John Campbell picked up a win with Vulcanize, who rallied from a three-length deficit at the three-quarter mark to win by 6 1/4 lengths in 1:55.3. The Muscles Yankee-My Starchip filly was making her fourth career start--all of them coming this year--for trainer Bob McIntosh and owner Lothlorien Equestrian.
