The Lexington Selected Yearling Sale continued Friday night and another 156 yearlings were sold, with the average price of $41,397 a 10.5 percent decline from last year's average of $46,238 for the third session. A total of 151 yearlings were sold in last year's third session.
The average price was up 2.3 percent for the first session and declined 10.6 percent in the second session.
The sale topper for the third night was the Credit Winner-sired colt named Whata Winner. Trainer Jim Doherty had the final bid at $165,000. The colt was consigned by Peninsula Farm, which served as agent for the breeder, the George F. Sholty Stable.
The sale continues on Saturday night and concludes with a final session which gets underway at noon on Sunday.
