In a matter of strides, Panaramic Art brushed to the lead and never looked back to win the $18,000 first leg of the Clyde Hirt Series in 1:52.1 Friday night at the Meadowlands. This was Panaramic Art’s 16th consecutive win at the Meadowlands, equaling the track record held by Ellamony.
Taken back early by driver George Brennan, Panaramic Art waited for cover before pouncing to the lead and drawing off to win. Tutor Hanover finished five lengths back in second while Noble’s Grand Slam was third. Panaramic Art paid $2.20.
Panaramic Art’s path to the Meadowlands winner’s circle was not a typical one. The 4-year-old son of the sire Hot Pans came by way of Iowa.
Roger Roland of Grinnell, Iowa, bred the son of Hot Pans. His grandson, Will Roland, trained and drove the gelding on the small Iowa fair circuit through September 2007. Panaramic Art was first or second in all 13 of his starts as a 2-year-old. He continued to impress at three, catching the eye of trainer Al Meyer and current owners Leonard Bogner and Stefano Scarogni, who race as the Squawk Box Stable of Monroe Township, NJ, and Deborah Adwokat [Keep The Dream Going Inc.] of Scarsdale, NY. The partnership purchased the gelding privately from Roger Roland for $60,000 on Oct. 5, 2007. Meyer took over the training duties and the gelding added to his skein of wins when he shipped east.
Panaramic Art has won 28 of 34 starts lifetime. His last loss was a fifth-place finish on July 8, 2007.
The Clyde Hirt series continues with a second round on January 18 and concludes with a $83,700 final on January 26. (Meadowlands)
