The entry box at The Red Mile continues to overflow and if you like racing, you'll certainly like Thursday night's card as 20 races have been scheduled to go postward. The first race will begin at 6:30 p.m., and race secretary Kevin Mack told harnessracing.com shortly before Monday night's 15-race card he hopes to have the 20th and final event declared "official" before 11:30.
Mack said 193 horses were dropped into the box for Thursday's marathon program, with 56 entered into the Kentucky Sire Stakes (KYSS) events for 3 year olds, 56 entered for the late-closing series, and 81 entered for the overnight races.
Featured on the card are seven KYSS races, with three 3-year-old colt paces worth $20,000 each, two 3-year-old filly pacers worth $25,000 each, and single $50,000 splits for 3-year-old colt trotters and 3-year-old filly trotters. There will also be seven $6,000 late-closer divisions, as well as six overnights.
Tuesday's qualifiers were washed out due to rain brought by remants of Tropical Storm Erin, which also brought temperatures down from the 90s into the 70s. The qualifiers have been rescheduled for Wednesday morning. The break from the heat will only be a short-lived one as the predicted high in Lexington for Thursday is 98 degrees.
