On The Road Again, one of the most popular and successful pacers of recent decades, was euthanized today at Blue Chip Farm after suffering a bout of colic. The chestnut pacing stallion was 25 and had been operated on after a bout with colic in 2001.
"He was a very special horse with a lot of personality and we'll miss him here at the farm," said Jean Brown of Blue Chip Farm.
During his three seasons at the races, On The Road Again won 44 of his 61 starts and paced to a 1:51.4 mark. His earnings came to $2,819,102. He was admired as a game and gutsy racehorse that traveled widely and took on all comers---and usually left them in his dust.
As a stallion, On The Road Again sired the millionaire mare Delinquent Account p, 5, 1:51.4 ($1,038,977), the dam of the top young sire Artiscape. He also sired Silent Spring, Sara Loren Rd., and CKS.
In addition to Artiscape, On The Road Again sired the dams of Four Starzzz Shark, Rainbow Blue, and this year’s top freshman filly Isabella Blue Chip. (USTA)
