2,000 wins for Don Currier Jr.

December 15, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Going into the 12- race program at Northville Downs on Friday night driver Don Currier Jr. needed only four victories to reach the coveted 2,000 win plateau in his driving career and he hit the number before the night was over.

Currier got off to a quick start winning the second race with JD Camberta, then his hot streak continued as he guided 12-1 longshot JJ’s Pilgrim to a passing lane score in race four. Although it was a cold night in Michigan, the weather could not stop Currier as he would go on to win the fifth race with a pocket rocket score with Cinco De Mayo who was the 3-2 betting favorite. His milestone victory took place in race seven as Foreign Affair went wire to wire in an upper conditioned race.

Currier is having his best year as a driver as he has already won over 300 races this year. He was the leading driver at Jackson Raceway this summer and also won the driving title at Raceway Park in Toledo.

Currier currently trains one of the nation’s top aged trotters by wins in 2007 as his El Tigger has won 15 of 39 races this year, and banked a total of nearly $30,000. He has been a regular driver on the Michigan circuit for over 24 years, and credits his father, Don Currier Sr., for giving him his start in the business.

Currier also says classification is a major key in winning races, and that is why he chose to race and drive full time at Jackson and Raceway Park this year. When asked what advice he would give to younger drivers starting out, he says, "Just keep your head on straight, and make the right decisions in life and on the racetrack."

All of us here at Northville Downs wish Don the best of luck and many more wins to come! (Northville Downs)
