2,000 wins for Gingras

Driver Yannick Gingras won four races Monday night at Yonkers Raceway, the last of which was the 2,000th of his career. His milestone victory came behind odds-on favorite Perdition in the $25,000, tri-featured, ninth-race pace, an event for for $50,000 claimers.

"I don't think much about these milestones," Gingras said."It's nice to pass them, and hopefully, there are plenty more in the future."

The 27-year-old Gingras, a native of Greenfield Park, Quebec, won his first race an an 18-year-old with Tidewater Comic at Hippodrome de Montreal in January 1998. After cutting his teeth in Quebec, he moved to New York in 2001 and has been a leading driver at both Yonkers Raceway and the Meadowlands ever since.

Gingras has won 241 races and more than $3 million in purses this season, placing him fifth among North American drivers in both categories Gingras set a career-best in 2006 with more than $7.1 million in purses. His drives have earned in excess $23.4 million in career purses.

Perdition, a 5-year-old gelding owned by Richard Annunziata and trained by Mickey Burke, opened up to a 3 1/2-length victory and scored in a season's-best 1:53.

Earlier on the 10-race card, Gingras won with Apache of Grey ($7.70), taking the $19,000, third-race pace by 1 3/4 lengths in 1:55.2 despite being parked for much of the mile.

He then won the $15,000, fifth-race pace behind favored Triple the Money ($4.50), prevailing by a neck in a season's-best 1:54.1, and the $18,000 sixth-race pace with Done Laagin ($9.70), getting home by a half-length in a season's-best 1:54.4. (Yonkers Raceway)
