2010 Ohio Super Night set for Sept. 4 at Scioto

Members of the Ohio Standardbred Development Fund (OSDF) scheduled the state’s sire stakes finals for 2010 at Scioto Downs on Sept. 4.

Purses for the championship events are estimated at $70,000 with the stipulation that payment of purse checks to owners will be delayed at least a month.  Ohio Sire Stakes final were contested at Northfield Park this year for $80,000 purses.

OSDF administrator Doug Thomas outlined the problems caused by decreased betting and delayed cash flow to the OSDF. If the 2010 Ohio Sires Stakes finals were contested around Labor Day, Thomas said there would only be sufficient funds to cover $50,000 purses unless owners agreed to defer payment. Purses will be paid by October 10, 2010 .

Members agreed to use an estimate of $70,000 for the finals with four preliminary legs in each age, gait, and sex division. The legs will carry a minimum $15,000 purse.

In recent years, Ohio Super Night has alternated between Scioto Downs and Northfield Park , but Lebanon Raceway expressed a willingness to host the events next year. Because of dates allocation, however, Lebanon proposed a date of Oct. 30 for Ohio Super Night.
