Standardbred breeders Fred Hertrich III and John Fielding sold a Thoroughbred colt for $2.5 million at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in Lexington, Ky., on Thursday.
Hertrich also breeds and sells Standardbreds commercially as All American Harnessbreds, with 10 yearlings (one in partnership with Fielding and David Willmot) selling this fall at the Lexington Selected Sale and 32 consigned to the Standardbred Horse Sale in Harrisburg.
The colt by War Front from the female family of Will's Way and Willa On the Move was bought by Coolmore Stud interests. Peter O'Callaghan's Woods Edge Farm consigned the colt as agent for Hertrich and Fielding.
Hertrich had purchased the colt's dam, stakes-placed Blading Gold Ring (by During), while carrying the $2.5 million colt for $165,000 from the Elm Tree Farm consignment to the 2011 Keeneland November breeding stock sale.
