The Delaware, Ohio County Fair has added 25 new overnight races to its 2010 schedule to provide more racing opportunities for Ohio-bred horses.
“Certainly we’ve had a reduction in the number of Ohio Breeders Championship and New Century-eligible horses,” said Tom Wright, director of racing. “Our goal is to make the racing more competitive and we must go outside our stakes and late closers to complete our race program.”
Wright added that the new overnight conditions are very consistent with the Ohio pari-mutuel tracks.
The overnight conditions will be posted early this week on the Little Brown Jug web site: www.littlebrownjug.com. The overnight schedule is also posted on the Little Brown Jug web site. Overnight conditions also will be included on the USTA and Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association web sites.
Starting fees for overnight races will be $50. All horses must be declared in to start by 10 a.m. three days prior to the event. Any questions, prior to Sept. 15, should be directed at Tom Wright at (614) 847-1948.
The five afternoons of harness racing gets underway Sunday afternoon, Sept. 19. (LBJ)
