With a large crowd in attendance, the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale got underway on a warm fall night in the Bluegrass. The average price at the first session climbed to $71,562--an increase of almost nine percent from last year. The top price in the opening session was the $270,000 bid for an Andover Hall filly out of Victory My Way 3, 1:54.3, the dam of Make You Mine 3, 1:54.1.

The partnership of David McDuffee, Herb Liverman and Lee and Linda DeVisser bought the sale topper, which was sold with the name Give Me A V. Kentuckiana Farms bred, raised and sold the filly.

Last year Andover Hall gave the yearling market a boost and it continued this year as four of his offspring brought prices of $100,000 or more in the opening session.

This year the first crop from Art Major added vigor to the sale with five of his offspring bringing final bids of $100,000 or more. Leading the Art Major yearlings in price was the filly Laid Off, a daughter of the Cambest mare Best Laid Plans p,4, T1:50.4. Jeff Webster, acting as agent, signed for the filly consigned by Preferred Equine Marketing for Moni Market Breeders.

A total of 121 yearlings were sold in the opening session this year versus 123 in 2005. The average price in last year's opening session was $65,756.
