2nd Newfoundland fire in 2 days kills 7 horses

Return Home
December 11, 2012 | Print View

Standardbred Canada reported Tuesday morning that a barn fire in the Goulds area of Newfoundland--the second in as many days--killed seven Standardbreds. The fire also killed three goats and destroyed all the equipment in the barn owned by local veterinarian Dr. Kevin Anderson and his wife, Dr. Karla Furey.

The barn that was destroyed Tuesday is just five minutes from the first barn that burned the day before, but did not kill any horses. Local police are warning the owners of farms and barns in the area to be on the lookout for any suspicious behavior.

The seven horses killed were all trained by Kevin McDonald, with some owned by him and his daughter, Amy. The horses killed were: Formac For Melissa, Mach Three Extreme, U S Charmeleon, Joes Rainbow, Abs Yankees Rail, PH Golden Girl and Hero In America.
