2 straight Pompano wins for Gotta Go Mo

January 04, 2009 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Gotta Go Mo ($5.60) started off 2009 right where he left off 2008, in the winner’s circle at the Isle Pompano Park, and the 5-year-old gelding did it in style, romping by 5 3/4 lengths to win the $16,000 Open Pace in 1:50.3.

Driven by Anthony Napolitano, one of Napolitano’s three winners on the night, Gotta Go Mo got away in second place at the start of the third race as JJ’s Gazette (Joe Pavia, Jr.) took the early lead. But by the opening quarter mile in :26.4, Napolitano had Gotta Go Mo on the move and in command.

Through the half mile in :55 and the three-quarters in 1:23, Gotta Go Mo and Napolitano held the field at bay. I Can Only Imagine (Bruce Ranger) tried coming first-over in the backstretch but to no avail.

As they started down the stretch, Gotta Go Mo kicked in a :27.3 final quarter mile to pull away from the field for the victory. Cape Karuna (David Ingraham) came on for second place with JJ’s Gazette third.

It was the second career start at the Isle Pompano Park for Gotta Go Mo, who recently came to Florida from Chicago. Owned by the Tanah Merah Farms of Springfield, IL, the son of Incredible Finale is trained by Dick Macomber. (Pompano Park)
