2 supplements to BCs

Artistic Fella, the reigning king of the sophomore colt pace division, and Fox Valley Tribal, a recent acquisition for Tony Chiaravalle, are taking the supplemental route to the $4.4 Breeders Crown events on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Woodbine Racetrack, in Toronto, Canada. The supplemental fee is $62,500 for the 3-year-old events. There are no supplemental provisions for the 2-year-old divisions.

Artistic Fella ran up a 10-race win streak this summer, annexing the Suslow, Berry’s Creek, Meadowlands Pace and Oliver Wendell Holmes before finishing second to Shark Gesture in Lexington last month. His most recent start was an easy 1:50.1 score at Chester Downs, signaling all systems go for owner Joe Alborano and trainer Steve Elliott.

“I felt very good about the horse yesterday,” said Alborano. “That’s why we are going up there. He’s back and just as good as he’s ever been. Steve has done a great job with him. The horse is what he is – and he performs with that kind of intensity every time you put him on the track. Even sick he did well. I am confident about him in the Crown. We’re going to give it what we got and may the best win.”

Chiaravalle also supplemented Fox Valley Tribal to the $610,000 Breeders Crown 3-Year-Old Colt & Gelding Pace. He purchased the son of Sportsmaster in August after observing some sharp efforts turned in by the Illinois bred.

"Tony Chiaravalle is as game as you can get,” said trainer Brett Robinson. "He says you can't win it if you’re not in it, so we are going. He [Fox Valley Tribal] showed that he could go pretty good and he was pretty
good in Chicago all summer. The 3 year olds are maybe a little soft right now; they look a little tired except for Artistic Fella. He looks like the one to beat in there and if we can get in there and get a decent chunk of it we’ll all be happy.”

Regular entries for eligible trotters and pacers are due by 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the Mohawk race office. Eliminations for 2-year-old trotters and 2-year-old filly pacers will be raced on Friday, Oct. 20 and the
remaining five eliminations, if needed, will be Saturday, Oct. 21.

The connections of elimination winners may pick their post position for the finals. The 3-year-old colt races will be drawn at the Breeder Crown press conference on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the WEGZ (Woodbine Entertainment Gaming Zone) Stadium Bar in Vaughan, Ont. (Breeders Crown)
