The Bluegrass for 2-year-old pacing colts resulted in big wins on a big stage for Ideal Vintage (1:53.4), Forensic Z Tam (1:53), Pandora’s Sox (1:53), Allamerican Bomber (1:52.4) and Kenneth J (1:52.3).

Ideal Vintage, a colt by Western Ideal, picked up his first major stakes win for trainer Jimmy Takter. As in the Little Brown Jug, Mark MacDonald handled the driving for Takter.

Forensic Z Tam, who set the pace in the New York Sire Stakes championship at Saratoga two weeks prior but was edged at the wire, this time got the win for trainer-driver Pat Lachance. The Bettor’s Delight colt now has four wins in six starts this season, and his 1:53 tally was also a new lifetime mark.

In the third Bluegrass for 2-year-old pacing colts, driver David Miller put Pandora’s Sox on the lead just past the first quarter and the duo was never headed the rest of the mile, winning by open lengths over Metro champion Yankee Skyscaper and driver Jody Jamieson. Joe Poliseno trains Pandora’s Sox, a son of The Panderosa who earned his second win in eight starts this season and also lowered his lifetime mark to 1:53.

Allamerican Bomber used a stretch rally to win his division in 1:52.4, earning his first career victory in three starts. The colt’s score came as a steady rain fell on The Red Mile. A son of Real Artist, “Bomber” had only made two previous starts this year for trainer Noel Daley. The pacesetter Last Call Hanover faded to fifth, with Always A Virgin and Caviart Cody taking second and third.

In the final division, Kenneth J enjoyed a two-hole trip as Takeshigemichi set the pace with fractions of :27.3, :56.1 and 1:24.3. In the homestretch Ron Pierce tipped Kenneth J to the outside and the Bettor’s Delight colt responded with pace to win and take a lifetime best. Cue The Paige was second while Takeshigemichi held on for third.

Two weeks earlier Kenneth J became New York’s 2-year-old pacing colt champion with a one-half length score over Forensic Z Tam, who won the second Bluegrass division of the day.
