Two-year-old fillies were in the spotlight Wednesday night as Historic Week began at the Meadowlands, and among the winners was Lover Of Art, who rallied from seventh at the top of the stretch to take the $71,662 Debutante Stake in 1:56.3.
Driven by Tim Tetrick, the daughter of Artsplace-Promise Me Hanover stopped JK Sure I Can [$2.40, $2.10] by a half-length. It was another half-length back to Camsamericangirl [$4.80] in third.
Chris Ryder trains the homebred filly for Brittany Farms of Versailles, KY and the Brian P. Monieson Revtrust of Northbrook, IL. Three divisions of the $94,460 Acorn Stake were also contested, with Cantab It All [$2.80, $2.40, $2.60] trotting the fastest of the miles in 1:58.3. The daughter of Cantab Hall-Better Odds romped to a five-length victory for driver John Campbell and trainer Jimmy Takter in the fifth race. Bone A Fide [$4.40, $4.60] and Twist In The Tail [$2.60], also from the Takter Stable, were the best of the rest. Cantab It All was an $80,000 yearling purchase by Christina Takter of East Windsor, NJ, John Fielding and Melvin Hartman of Ontario, and Falkbolagen Ab of Sweden. Behindcloseddoors (Andover Hall-Margarita Nights) won the first of the Acorn splits in 1:59.1 for John Campbell and trainer Chuck Sylvester, while Secret Magic, another daughter of Cantab Hall, got up by a head to take the middle division in 2:00 for Mike Lachance and Ron Gurfein. Historic Week continues Thursday night with the $91,060 Harriman Cup and $79,162 Goshen Cup for freshman colt trotters and pacers. (Meadowlands)
