The $300,000 yearling purchase Highscore Kemp, making her pari-mutuel debut Wednesday afternoon at The Red Mile, came up a winner with a stretch rally for trainer-driver Frank Antonacci. Highscore Kemp charged past the John Campbell-driven Suzie Sunshine in deep stretch to post a 1:58.1 victory in a $12,000 division of a late-closer trot for first-year fillies.
A daughter of Muscles Yankee, Highscore Kemp is out of the Garland Lobell mare Emilie Cas El, she a full sister to the $800,000-winning Hall siblings: Conway Hall, Angus Hall and Andover Hall. Bred by Steve Stewart, Joseph Taylor Estate and Martti Ala-Seppala, Highscore Kemp is owned by KR Breeding LLC of Somersville, Conn.
Wednesday's win came after five qualifying efforts on the East Coast for Highscore Kemp, and her first trip into the winner's circle. She had a pair of fourth-place finishes in baby races at the Meadowlands in July before a pair of seconds and a fourth at Vernon Downs in late August and the first two weeks of September.
