With multiple bids on yearlings flying around the newly redecorated auction ring at the Fasig Tipton Sale Pavilion, the Lexington Selected Sale opened on Wednesday night with strong prices, with the average price of $87,824 a 22.7 percent increase from last year’s opening session. The average at last year’s opening session was $66,756 for 123 sold.

The sale topper in the opening session was a Muscles Yankee filly out the accomplished Emilie Cas El, a full sister to brothers Andover Hall, Angus Hall and Conway Hall. Lindy Farms of Connecticut had the final bid at $300,000. Hunterton Sales Agency consigned the yearling.

Emilie Cas El has already produced Archduke Kemp 3, 1:54.1 ($245,620), a winner in Europe, and Fabulous Kemp, a New Jersey Sire Stakes winner at the Meadowlands.

With 39 yearlings bringing bids of $100,000 or more, about one-third of the yearlings sold fell into the six-figure category.

Yearlings from the first crops by trotting sires Cantab Hall, Tom Ridge, Windsong’s Legacy and Revenue had a big impact on the sale. Six yearlings by Cantab Hall generated an average price of $127,500; three by Tom Ridge averaged $106,667; six by Windsong’s Legacy averaged $93,167; and three by Revenue averaged $83,333.

The late Western Hanover topped the pacing sires in average with his 15 offspring bringing an average of $106,467.
