Fancy Vacation commanded the lead at the half and held on in 1:55 to win the $30,000 third leg of the New Jersey Sire Stakes for 3-year-old filly trotters Wednesday night at the Meadowlands, and in the second split Gleam's Dream, a daughter of Hambletonian victor Muscles Yankee and Oaks champion Gleam, held off the equally blue-blooded Share The Promise and All Our Moni in 1:56.
Driven by Ron Pierce, Fancy Vacation won despite going off stride before the wire, Chez Belle complied with the breaking rule and finished second. Muscle Shirt was a distanced third. Fancy Vacation paid $3.40
Fancy Vacation, a daughter of Dream Vacation, increased her earnings to more than $50,000 for the Aci Stuteri AB of Paris, Kentucky. Trained by Annette Lorentzon, Fancy Vacation has won two of three starts in 2008.
In the second division, Gleams Dream pulled off a 29-1 upset over Share The Promise, a daughter of Yankee Glide and Winky's Goal, and All Our Moni, a Self Possessed daughter of Moni Maker.
With John Campbell in the bike, Gleams Dream battled gamely down the stretch with Share The Promise to win the night’s third race by a neck in 1:56. Gleams Dream paid $60.20.
Trained by Chris Ryder, Gleams Dream has one win in five starts in 2008. Gleams Dream boosted her career earnings to more than $30,000 for Ryder of Allentown, New Jersey and the Alycon Stable of Brigantine, New Jersey.
For the first time, the New Jersey Sires Stakes program will crown all of its 3-year-old champions on a single night, June 20, at the Meadowlands. The four finals are worth a combined $700,000 in purses. (Meadowlands)
