Buyers seeking racehorses drove up bids at the Tattersalls Mixed Sale at the Meadowlands Monday, and it took a bid of $250,000 for trainer Ben Wallace to take home Suprizemeagain, an Indiana-eligible 3-year-old son of Western Hero. Suprizemeagain was developed by Illinois trainer Shawn Nessa and the colt won 10 of 12 starts—finshing second in his only defeats—while taking a mark of 1:51 and earning $159,300.
Eleven other horses who are racing--or with the potential to race soon--also brought bids of $100,000 or more. The second highest price paid was for Western Shore, who is competing in the Presidential Series. Thomas Cancelliere paid $212,000 for the horse. Another $200,000-plus buy was the 4-year-old Riggins, who won a qualifier in 1:55.2 at the Meadowlands on Jan. 8 for trainer-driver Ray Schnittker. Jeff Brooks bought him with a bid of $220,000.
Other six-figure purchases include Sam Remo Kosmos ($180,000), Trade Editor ($170,000), Zooka ($152,000), Legacy N Diamonds ($130,000), Stand Guard ($125,000), Major General ($115,000), Lets Getit Started ($100,000) and Lis Deo ($100,000).
