Mr Pine Chip, runner-up in last year’s Breeders Crown for 2-year-old colt trotters, won his qualifier at the Meadowlands Thursday morning by four lengths in 2:00.1. Trainer Trond Smedshammer took the lines.

A 3-year-old colt by SJ's Caviar out of the Pine Chip mare Miss Pine Chip, Mr Pine Chip finished second to divisional champ Chocolatier in both the elimination and final of last year's Breeders Crown. He made $290,508 as a freshman.

Keystone Savage, winner of last year’s Peter Haughton Memorial, won his split by 1 ¾ lengths in 1:59. Brian Sears drove the Yankee Glide colt for trainer Dane Snyder.

Filly standout Wherley 2,1:58.2 ($182,328) finished third in her split, timed in 1:58.2.
