6,000 for 'The Whip'

Return Home
August 22, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Rick Zeron, known as "The Whip," became the 31st driver to reach the 6,000-win mark when he piloted Star Bonus A to a 1:52 victory in the first race at Mohawk Monday night. The number 31 is also significant as it was 31 years ago when he scored his first lifetime win at Rideau Carleton Raceway in 1975 with a horse named Oxford Mary.

Zeron, 49, was congratulated in the winner's circle by Woodbine Entertainment Group's vice president of Standardbred racing Jamie Martin.

Zeron, who said afterward he hoped to add at least 1,500 more wins to his ledger, added two more victories on the card, bringing his career total of winner's circle trips to 6,002.
