A Conway Hall colt out of the Yankee Glide mare Sister Sammy topped the South Florida Sunshine Sale Sunday afternoon, fetching a bid of $67,000 from Dave McDuffee.

The colt, named Battleground State, is the first foal of Sister Sammy, who took a mark of 1:58.3 as a 2 year old and finished third behind Fluttering Wings and Emotional Rescue in the Merrie Annabelle at the Meadowlands. Tom Haughton trained Sister Sammy.

The second highest price at the sale was attained thanks to the $50,000 bid by Tony Alagna for the Real Desire-sired colt Distant Salutation. Alagna is an assistant for top trainer Erv Miller. Distant Salutation is the second foal of the Western Hanover mare Dream Western.
