8 straight wins for Southwind Tempo

Southwind Tempo posted her eighth straight victory of the season in winning a Valley Forge early-closer division winners at Harrah’s Chester Thursday, pacing to a 2 3/4-length score in 1:50.3 despite starting from post eight. The other winners were Art’s Fantasy (1:51.2), Captiva Island (1:52.1) and Artcotic (1:51).

Southwind Tempo was making her first start since racing to a victory in the Lady Catskill in a rainstorm at Monticello on July 4. Although she drew post position eight in the Chester race, she had command of the field just past the quarter-mile mark. With Tim Tetrick in the sulky as usual, the Bettor’s Delight filly paced home in :26.3 to win over Western Graduate.

Southwind Tempo is trained by Steve Elliott and owned by Alton “Toby” Lynch and Wayne Chrebet. Earlier this year she set a 1:49.3 five-eighths mile track world record at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. She has now won 10 of 11 starts this season and earned $491,047.

Art’s Fantasy and Captiva Island gave owner Lloyd Arnold a two-for-two record in the Valley Forge. Arnold owns both fillies and also bred Captiva Island, who is out of his million-dollar plus winner Sanabelle Island. Captiva Island prevailed by just a nose over Mind Boggling.
