9 races at Yonkers Friday

Yonkers Raceway is pleased to announce the resumption of both live racing and simulcasting Friday, with first post for the nine-race live program at 7:40 p.m., with expanded simulcasting beginning just after 12 noon. Yonkers last offered parimutuel racing June 25, 2005, before embarking on a $240 million construction project for the installation of video gaming machines.

Presently, there are nearly 2,400 VGM’s as part of Empire City at Yonkers Raceway, located on the first and second floors of the renovated clubhouse. Racing fans shall be greeted by a totally refurbished third and fourth floor of the clubhouse, complete with individual handicapping areas, brand new televisions and
state-of-the-art wagering machines. Wagering windows are also offered in the newly-refurbished Empire Terrace restaurant, located on the second floor of the clubhouse.

“All of us at Yonkers Raceway are tremendously excited to bring racing back,” general manager Bob Galterio said. “I can’t thank the New York State Racing and Wagering Board, our horsemen and fans enough for their patience and support, and we plan to reward them with a world-class product going for serious money.”

Toward that end, stakes action for this season debuts at Yonkers Saturday night, Nov. 18, with eliminations for the $750,000 (est.) Yonkers Trot and $750,000 (est.) Messenger Stakes, final jewels in the Trotting and Pacing Triple Crown, respectively.

The connections of Glidemaster, winner of both the $1.5 million Hambletonian and $526,000 Kentucky Futurity, have indicated they are putting up the $60,000 supplemental entry fee for the Yonkers Trot. Entry box for the Yonkers Trot and Messenger Stakes, along with “sister” events the Lady Maud Pace and Hudson Filly Trot, closes Wednesday (Nov. 15) at 10 a.m.

Yonkers Raceway has requested a five-program-per-week (Friday through Tuesday) live harness schedule, with first post Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday at 7:40 p.m. Sunday’s first post is 5 p.m. (Yonkers)
