Quik Pulse Mindale won the first of two Breeders Crown elims for 3-year-old pacing colts, scoring in 1:51. The second elim was won by Geartogear in 1:51.4.

Quik Pulse Mindale, who was supplemented to the race, was given an off-the-pace journey by regular driver Tony Morgan, who later said his horse prefers that kind of a trip. "He'll race in front, but he's a lot better horse from behind," he said.

Tattersalls Pace division winner Western Terror finished second while Meadowlands Pace champ Holborn Hanover was third and North America Cup victor Mantacular took fourth. Panlubber also advanced with his fifth-place finish.

Geartogear won his race easily, cutting the pace and scoring by 3 1/2 lengths over Metropolitan. The Preacher Pan was third, Armbro Baylor took fourth and Up Front Brad also advanced. Tattersalls Pace division winner Yankee Lariat started from post six and got away seventh and never advanced.
