Aachoo wins Super Bowl final

It was a three-horse rush to the end zone in the $79,000 Super Bowl Final Wednesday night at Meadowlands Racetrack. And it was Aachoo’s nose that prevailed.

Driven by Tim Tetrick, Aachoo came first up to take the lead around the final turn and held off Grey Ice and Beautiful Legacy. She trotted the mile in 1:57.1 and paid $4.60. The 4-year-old daughter of Keystone Nordic, trained by Ron Burke, was one of two mares in the 10-horse Super Bowl field.

Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi and Howard Taylor purchased Aachoo on Nov. 20, 2009 and she has won four of her five starts since then. Aachoo now sports a record of 12 wins in 29 career starts and earnings in excess of $85,000.

“Tim [Tetrick] was driving her at Chester and he called me up and said there was a mare for sale and that he really liked her,” Taylor said.  “He said ‘I think you ought to buy her,’ so I made a call to Ronnie [Burke]. He liked her, so we bought her.

“I had no hesitation [racing Aachoo against male horses],” Taylor added. “She raced against the boys at Yonkers and won for us both times.” (Meadowlands)
