Ron Pierce moved Badlands Iron Lady three wide on the final turn on the way to a 1:52.3 triumph in the $24,000 Filly and Mare Open Pace Tuesday at Dover Downs. Trainer Joe Hundertpfund won two races to bring his consecutive win streak to five while Ross Wolfenden had four driving wins.

The only filly meeting seven veteran distaffs in the week's top female pace, Badlands Iron Lady followed the Tony Morgan-driven Apache Dame on the outside chasing front-pacing Yada Yada Yada A with Wolfenden piloting. Upon reaching the three quarters in 1:24.2, Pierce took his Badlands Hanover sophomore three wide to challenge the leader. In the stretch Badlands Iron Lady caught Yada Yada Yada A in the closing strides of a: 28.1final panel to chalk up the victory by a long neck. Shake Away, with Jim King, closed to finish third. The win was the first of two for Hall of Famer Pierce.

The George Teague-trained Badlands Iron Lady has now won $97,551 for owner Only Money Inc. of Hartly, Del. She has won seven times in 19 starts with four seconds and three thirds. Two races later another Badlands Hanover sophomore, Badlands Sammy with George Dennis in the bike, held off a fast-finishing Full Of Elegance (Tim Tetrick) for a 1:55.2 win.

The $21,000 Filly and Mares Jr. Open was an all-Natural Woman N show. Steve Warrington, who owns the 5-year-old Badlands Hanover mare with Paul Kasofsky and Jim DeVaux, moved to the front and never was headed in a 1:53.4 mile. It was her fifth consecutive win. Calling Card, driven by Brad Hanners, was second best. Bay Express N finished third for Roger Plante.
