A diesel in Valley Victory

Diesel Don continued his late-season surge with an impressive victory in the $228,600 Valley Victory final for 2-year-old colt trotters at the Meadowlands Saturday night. With John Campbell driving, Diesel Don charged to the lead first-over around the final turn and drew clear to a 1:57 win.



Favored Strong Yankee and trainer-driver Trond Smedshammer had the lead turning for home but tired and was no match for Diesel Don and he easily moved past. Classic Photo, a 90-1 longshot driven by Andy Miller, closed for second with Magic Swan and Cat Manzi third.



Along with his wife, Paula as Having Fun Stable, Campbell shares ownership in the winning son of Muscles Yankee with trainer Chuck Sylvester and Neal Goldman. Diesel Don finishes his freshman campaign with five wins in eight starts, The Valley Victory win was his third straight.
