The Meadows Racetrack & Casino has set the $450,000 Coors Delvin Miller Adios XLI for Saturday, Aug. 11, with the race serving as a continuation of the grand traditions started by Delvin Miller and as a departure into promising new territory. It will be the first edition of the Adios conducted during the track's casino era, which began Monday with the opening of The Meadows' temporary casino only yards from the track. Yet it also will mark the final Adios for the track's 44-year-old grandstand, which will be demolished to make way for a permanent casino. In fact, following the conclusion of the evening card on Aug. 11, live racing will go on a two-month hiatus while the grandstand is razed. Simulcasting will be available on site throughout the demolition/development period, and operations at The Meadows' off-track sites will not be affected. John Marshall, vice president and general manager for The Meadows, said, “The track will create an Adios this year that honors the history of The Meadows Racetrack and celebrates our new course. “The Adios is, first and foremost, one of North America's premier races for our sport's top 3 year olds, and it will remain so into the future.” One tradition returning to the Adios this year is a doubleheader card on Saturday, Aug. 11, with post times of 1 p.m. and 8 p.m.; the Adios will be part of the afternoon card. The Meadows also will feature programs Monday through Friday, highlighted by Grand Circuit racing, leading to the Adios Day doubleheader. The Adios and the Adioo Volo, the companion feature for 3-year-old pacing fillies, promise to be first-class events. Following the final sustaining payments, 102 colts and geldings are eligible for the Adios, 107 fillies for the Adioo Volo. “The Adios and Grand Circuit Week provide us with an exceptional opportunity to introduce casino patrons to outstanding harness racing and to bring our racing fans to the casino,” Marshall said. “We're planning a full menu of promotions, giveaways and fun.” (The Meadows)
