Adrian Chip, the runner-up to Donato Hanover in last year's Hambletonian, made his first start of the 2008 season Thursday night at Sweden's Boden track and won in a mile rate time of 1:59 over 2,160 meters.

With Robert Bergh, his usual driver, in the sulky, Adrian Chip started easily with the standing start race and had the lead by the quarter mark despite his 20-meter handicap. Bergh tucked the whip during the race and Adrian Chip won easily, prompting the race announcer to call the effort "brilliant."

According to reports, the first big race of the year for the now 4-year-old son of Andover Hall will be the King's Trophy.
