The second leg of the Ralph and Dorothy Rose series got underway Sunday at Hoosier Park and Note To Groovey and Charles Conrad beat out the field of seven trotters for the win in a time of 2:01.
Note To Groovey had an early lead at the start, but yielded to Blueridge Hush and driver Bobby Brower for the pocket seat at the quarter-mile marker in :29.2. First Notable Chip, controlled by Doug Rideout, followed in third. Blueridge Hush took no prisoners as he burst from the pack without looking back and took a commanding lead at the half.
Squaring off in the stretch, Note To Groovey came back in the game to go head to head with Blueridge Hush. Both tiring due to the battle, Note To Groovey finally got up to win at the wire by three-quarters of a length.
Note To Groovey, a 4-year-old son of New and Notable, is owned and trained by Charles Von See of Charlotte, Mich. He returned $44.40, $15.20, and $9.60. The $14,000 final of the Ralph and Dorothy Series is set for Sunday, May 4. (Hoosier Park)
