Aldrich scores six-bagger at Mighty M

Return Home
December 08, 2009 | Print View

Bruce Aldrich Jr. put on a driving clinic at Monticello Raceway on a snowy Monday afternoon when he reined six winners on the card. And had Aldrich’s pacer Romi Mystic  had one more final surge near the wire in the 10th race, he would have had seven wins.

Aldrich started his assault in the second race when he won with Dave Sebolsky’s pacer Longbeach Victor in a time of  2:04.1. His next triumph came in race four when he guided Our Special Girl to a 2:03.4 victory for owners Rebikoff; Raiano and Sorentino. Then Aldrich waited until the seventh race to unleash a barrage on his competitors winning three races in a row.

Victory number three came in the seventh race behind Turn The Page Stables’ Trust Funding in a 2:02.1 clocking. Aldrich came back in race eighth when he reined his wife April’s Windy Dawn to victory in 2:04.4. And he proceeded to win the ninth with his own Tropical Bay in 2:02.2.

The second place finish--by a short nose--in the 10th race stopped five consecutive for Aldrich because he came back to win the 11th with Anthony Annunziato Jr.’s Take A Peek N.

But six wins  and two seconds  is a good day in anybody’s book.

“This is the best day I ever had,” Aldrich said happily when contacted by phone in the paddock after the race card was completed. “I’ve won  five races on a card seven times but  never had I won six. I’m thrilled.” (Monticello)
